As Christians, we know that becoming a follower of Jesus doesn't mean that we are free of all problems and pain, but that we are never alone when experiencing these things. Financial difficulties can sometimes increase the problems and the feelings of pain that we experience but financial wealth does not always eliminate them. In the context of Christianity, it is not material wealth that is inherently bad or evil but the worshipping of it that is. There are positives to acquiring wealth and material riches. Both can be used for good if they are put towards helping those living in poverty or otherwise in need.

Below are some Bible verses on money, riches and spiritual wealth.

Proverbs 11:28 - Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.

Proverbs 23:4-5 - Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 - Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.

Matthew 6:19-21 - 'Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.'

Matthew 16:26 - What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

Luke 16:13 - 'No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.'

Luke 12:15 - Then he said to them, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.'

1 Timothy 6:10 - For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

1 Timothy 6:17 - Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
