This year saw the release of the latest title in the "Zelda" franchise, "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," and it, along with the follow-up downloadable content (DLC), "Champions Balled," have left a great impression on fans. Now, players will be glad to know that they can expect another game in the future as it has just been confirmed that a new upcoming "Zelda" game is being developed.
According to Game Informer, news of this upcoming title was first mentioned by the game series' producer, Eiji Aonuma. He revealed this new game in the Master Works, an artbook for the "Breath of the Wild" game. Fans who have the copy would have already known this. Nevertheless, even for those who did not have a copy of the Master Works, it does not seem much of a surprise for a new "Zelda" game to pop up, especially given its current success.
"Breath of the Wild" apparently began development right after Nintendo Launched "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" back in 2011 for the Nintendo Wii. That said, fans would have already expected for news like this sooner or later after "Breath of Wild"'s release.
This also became apparent and very much anticipated when the game's director Hidemaro Fujibayashi had previously shared his thoughts on the game series's future. "I can't say at this point if it will be in sequels or in continuations, or what form it will take," mentions Fujibayashi, as per IGN. "But I definitely have lots of ideas and lots of motivation right now."
There is not much else mentioned about the new game other than the fact that it is going to be a "Legend of Zelda" title. Speculations can be made that it will definitely be for the latest consoles, especially for the Nintendo Switch.
As for the release date, if fans follow the pattern from "Skyward Sword" to "Breath of the Wild", it may then take six years. However, Aonuma mentioned that they would be releasing games much faster in the coming years.
