It is getting more and more difficult for Christians to find a good partner to marry nowadays. New research indicates that 25 percent of millennials will never get married even once in their entire lifetime.
What happened? Why are people not keen on getting married anymore? Michael Snyder, founder and publisher of End of the American Dream, writes in an article for Charisma News that people live in a "me-centred" society nowadays, so people are more in love with themselves rather than with their partners.
"When pleasing self becomes the highest priority, that doesn't leave a lot of room for the kind of self-sacrificial love that marriage requires," he says. "So many of us are inclined to stay with our 'partners' for only as long as they make us happy, and the instant that ends, many of us wish to dispose of them."
Snyder says it's more difficult to find someone with good values as well because people generally do whatever they feel like doing without giving much thought to the consequences. Less people attend religious services weekly, and because of this, America's moral compass has taken a nosedive.
It does not help that young adults are more obsessed with money and material things, continues Snyder. Millennials will not even consider dating someone unless that person has "good prospects." They fail to assess other important traits such as industriousness, loyalty, and devotion to God, among many other things.
To add to the problem, says Snyder, a lot of young men in their 20s and 30s have resorted to being bums who watch TV and play video games all day long instead of earning an honest living.
Another thing people consider is sexual purity, but society is so "sexually hypercharged" that people are behaving like animals and giving little regard to celibacy, says Snyder.
To make matters worse, an increasing percentage of young people do not even want to engage with anyone from the opposite sex because they prefer the same sex.
"Very few of our churches like to talk about sin, commandments, holiness or eternal judgment anymore, and as a result, many people in the church are going just as wild as people in the world," says Snyder.
"In May 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced that we would put men on the moon. In May 2016, Barack Obama announced that we would put men in women's restrooms," he adds. "The very foundations of our society are being systematically destroyed, and yet very few people seem upset about this."
