NFL promises a lot of action this Thanksgiving Day, with three exciting games on Nov. 23.
The Minnesota Vikings (8-2) and Detroit Lions (6-4) will kick off the holiday football games at 12:30 p.m. EDT, at Fort Field, Detroit, to be aired on Fox.
The game is set to be record-breaking, with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford on the way to making history. With four touchdowns, he would exceed former Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo's record for most career-passing TDs since 1970. He could also surpass Romo's most career Thanksgiving Day passing yards (2,338), by adding another 120 more this Thanksgiving Day.
If the Lions win, this will be their first five-game-or-better Thanksgiving Day winning streak since 1950 to 1955, when they won six times in a row.
The Lions, however, have a formidable opponent in the Vikings, whose Adam Thielen is having a breakout year as wide receiver. He is currently leading the conference with 916 receiving yards.
Their game will be followed by a battle between the Los Angeles Chargers (4-6) and Dallas Cowboys (5-5) at 4:30 p.m. EDT, at AT&T Stadium, Dallas, which can be viewed on CBS.
The Cowboys have had a rough past couple of weeks, after losing to the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles, mainly because of their long list of injured players — offensive tackle Tyron Smith, linebacker Sean Lee and placekicker Dan Bailey — who all had to sit out in the past few weeks. Starting right tackle La'el Collins and starting linebacker Anthony Hitchens were also reportedly injured in the past week.
Team EVP Stephen Jones said in a recent interview, however, that he is positive Bailey and Hitchens will recover in time for their match against the Chargers. That is exactly the kind of boost the team needs, as they will have to break the strong defense of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, who NFL calls "some of the scariest edge-rushing duo in the league."
The New York Giants (2-8) and Washington Redskins (4-6) will end Thanksgiving football at 8:30 p.m. EDT, at FedEx Field, Landover, Maryland, to be aired on NBC.
The Redskins have their own fair share of injuries, with running backs Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson on reserve this week. This gives a lot of burden to rookie Samaje Perine, who will have to pull through the night for a chance to win against the Giants, who have the third-worst rushing in the league.
Whoever will be truly thankful this Thanksgiving Day, NFL fans will have to find out as the games air on various channels throughout the day.
