The "Twisted Metal" franchise is one of the most beloved vehicular combat games that many people grew up playing. Its unique gameplay has been unparalleled even until today, but the game franchise itself has not seen a new title in several years. Many wonder what happened to it, but thankfully, the creator of the series has finally opened up about its status.

Creator David Jaffe shared his thoughts about it on a YouTube video, which fans can watch on the platform. The video is entitled "The State of Twisted Metal" with the main question being, "What's up with Twisted Metal?"

Many fans have probably wondered at this point saying that Jaffe could have just made another game if he loved the series. To acknowledge this, Jaffe starts the video by saying that he does not have the rights to the game; Sony does. If Sony plans on making a new one, they would be giving Jaffe his resources to do so.

The most he could do for now is to wait for Sony to tell him updates about the future of the game. At this point, he says that he would be "stunned" if they do decide to push the franchise, further implying that it may unlikely happen anytime soon.

In the case that "Twisted Metal" does get a new title, Jaffe notes that it would take a lot of money to make the game fit for today's audiences. This contributes to another reason for Sony to be quite hesitant. Jaffe, however, is still hopeful that the series could still get new titles. After all, the fanbase is quite huge as "Twisted Metal" is one of the most popular classics.

The last game that could have been released was "Twisted Metal: Revolution" a few years ago for the PS3, but it was cancelled. With Sony giving a fellow classic, "Medieval," a remaster, they could be thinking of making another remaster for "Twisted Metal" for the PS4 as well.
