Family members of The Departed are scammed in the upcoming episode of "The Leftovers" season 3.
Titled "Don't Be Ridiculous," next week's episode will explore an investigation surrounding those who are involved with The Departed. According to the official synopsis, Nora (Carrie Coon) is called to investigate a possible scam. As the fraud investigator for the Department of Sudden Departure (D.S.D.), she heads to St. Louis to look into a group that convinces the family of The Departed that there is a way to reunite with their loved ones.
Sunday's premiere wrapped up with a strange scene that raised a lot of questions from fans. The last scene in the episode showcased a rural Australia with a mysterious woman collecting white doves and later delivering them to a nun. The nun addressed the woman as "Sarah" and asked her if the name "Kevin" meant anything to her. The woman, who appeared to be an older version of Nora, casually replied, "No."
Some fans believe that Nora and Kevin (Justin Theroux) had a falling out, so she does not want to remember him anymore. Viewers also theorize that Kevin might be a wanted man and Nora was just pretending not to know him.
"The Leftovers" centers on a mysterious phenomenon that significantly affected all the characters in different ways. However, TV Guide reports that the HBO drama's final season is not all about finding answers. Instead, it focuses on what happens when there are no answers at all.
"I would say the overall theme of Season 3 of 'The Leftovers' is about our belief systems," director Mimi Leder told the publication, adding, "It's about the stories we tell ourselves to bring meaning and clarity to our lives, bring us peace, maybe some hope, some happiness. I think life is hard and I think Season 1 was about the Event and Season 2 was definitely a reaction to that and Season 3 is the stories we tell ourselves."
The third and final season of "The Leftovers" airs every Sunday night at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO.
