American crime thriller television series "The Blacklist" just killed off Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) in the season 4 finale. With that, fans are wondering what happens to his wife Liz Keen (Megan Boone) on the next season without Tom.

Series creator Jon Bokenkamp said "The Blacklist" season 5 will focus on the recovery of Liz. Liz was wounded after someone attacked her and Tom in their apartment, which cost Tom's life. Bokenkamp continued that Liz will be suffering some physical and emotional setbacks.

"We will be telling stories around exactly that subject, like how does she heal? How does she emotionally heal? How does she want to confront Tom's death? Can she confront it? So yes, there will be fallout from what has happened to her," said Bokenkamp in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Liz will wake up on a hospital bed with her biological father Raymond Reddington (James Spader) on her side. He will inform Liz about Tom's demise and that she has been in a coma for 10 months. Being the last person to know about the death of her husband will hit Liz hard. Her rehabilitation will also be more grueling since she needs to stay on bed for a long time.

In a separate interview with TV Line, Bokenkamp said that when the show returns, it will be "really, really, unique, out-of-pattern, and a totally different episode." The premiere episode of "The Blacklist" season 5 will be super-emotional and will raise many great questions. The mystery of the suitcase, which is seen in the finale, will also be tackled in season 5. Red will still need to find out where the suitcase is and whose bones are there.

Fans want to know if they can still get a glimpse of Tom on the show through flashbacks. The series creator revealed that they did not plan for that to happen and they are not anticipating it. However, this could be possible like what they did to Sam Milhoan, Liz's stepfather, who passed away in the first season of the series.

"The Blacklist" season 5 will return on Jan. 3, 2018 on NBC.
