Just like Daisy Ridley's Rey, many theories have surrounded John Boyega's character ever since he debuted as Finn in last year's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." One popular claim is that the stormtrooper-turned-Resistance-fighter is actually an undiscovered Jedi.

There were certain hints dropped in the previous film that seemingly suggests Finn is Force-sensitive. He has already been established as a significant piece of The Resistance and looks to be intrigued by the concept of The Force. He has wielded and fought using a lightsaber without training, and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) seemed to sense the Force in him.

However, Boyega is pretty sure he will not become one. In an interview with Digital Spy, the actor dismissed the theory, citing franchise tradition as the main reason.

"I think it would be more interesting if they had more than one person be a Jedi – but I think that that is the one of the unspoken laws of Star War," he told the publication. "They only have one who has to go away and train."

Still, that does not mean that Finn cannot become a hero. Whatever becomes of his character, Boyega hopes he would have an interesting story arc as he fully immerses himself in his new life of being a member of the Resistance. "...There are loads more stronger characters in the Star Wars universe that can go up against Jedi and they don't necessarily have to be a Jedi," he explained, naming Boba Fett as an example.

As recalled, Boba Fett's character was compelling even before the franchise revealed his backstory in "Attack of the Clones." He was independent and known for operating outside of the established rules of the "Star Wars" universe. If the franchise sets the same path for Finn, fans can expect the character to continue pushing boundaries.

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is scheduled to be the second film in a new trilogy that started with "The Force Awakens." Directed by Rian Johnson, the movie opens in cinemas on Dec. 15.
