Koimoi even said that Star Wars directors George Lucas and J.J. Abrams would have been proud for what Johnson did in The Last Jedi. Vulture said that the latest film showed that the force made it all the way to the director.
However, the movie did receive a number of backlash from moviegoers. Some people indicated that the direction of the show failed to deliver the sequel that the Force Awakens deserves. There are individuals who pointed out that the latest movie utilized the wrong elements for a Star Wars film.

Making Star Wars reported that director Abrams already pitched a storyline for the next episode to Disney CEO Bob Iger. The release date and title of the next film are yet to be announced.
The movie generated over $220 million earnings on its opening day weekend. The movie came second in the biggest opening ever list next to its predecessor, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," with $248.8 million.
