'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' cast news: Critics praise Rey

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has not just brought back a lot of familiar themes and feelings to "Star Wars" fans, but has also introduced some new elements to the saga. One of the new arcs viewers have seen is the introduction of Rey.

Film critics are starting to put out reviews of the latest instalment of the "Star Wars" franchise, and a lot of the noise seems to be centered on the character of Rey, who is played by newcomer Daisy Ridley. Rey is a scavenger from a desert planet of Jakku who discovers that she has a sensitivity to the Force, a universal power that intertwines all living things in the galaxy.

Many viewers have given great positive feedback to Rey and the ideal she carries. Bustle's Casey Cipriani says Rey is "the feminist hero we've all been waiting for," and notes that women everywhere rejoiced after knowing that episode seven would have a female protagonist.

Hit Flix praises the character of Rey for the roles that she has portrayedin the film: a great pilot who can maneuver even the Millennium Falcon, a talented fighter with the light saber and a woman with a fearless attitude. Rey is a character that many lady "Star Wars" fans have been waiting for.

Though there have been other promising characters such as Princess Leia and Padme Amidala, Rey brings a new kind of female spunk to the film.

Joanna Robinson of Vanity Fair also goes on to praise Rey, calling her the "the most fully formed and powerful female 'Star Wars' character yet."

Ridley, who portrays Rey in the film, is also known for her roles as Alicia in "The In Betweeners 2" and Hannah Kennedy in "Silent Witness." Ridley is relatively new to the big screen, as she was mostly appearing in television shows.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is out in theatres now. Other cast members include John Boyega, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Adam Driver.
