Ever since "The Force Awakens" was rolled out in cinemas back in 2015, fans have been making up theories left and right as to who Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) is. With "The Last Jedi" finally out, it may have provided some indirect answers, but they are answers that many fans cannot really accept.
Despite rumors, "The Last Jedi" was not about Supreme Leader Snoke as many cast and crew have already told its fans. For those who have seen the movie, they will know that Snoke dies a quick death. Just like that, he was split in half. As such, many fans have been left wondering about the villain as the film did not answer nor give much information about who Snoke is or where comes from.
One popular theory is rooted in parallelism from the previous movies. Fans of the "Star Wars" franchise would know that If there is any other character who was split into half, it would be Darth Maul. As such, some theories say that Snoke could be one half of Darth Maul who managed to live, and a new half from the latest film will come back alive in the next episode, "Episode IX." However, "The Last Jedi" already featured scenes that showed Snoke completely dead, so this theory is not something many fans expect to actually happen.
This then brings in another theory that Snoke may be Darth Plagueis. With his midichlorian-manipulating powers, there is still this bit of chance that he could save himself and come back later, thus forming the First Order in "The Force Awakens." Another theory that has also sparked up debates says that Snoke might be Mace Windu, disregarding his seemingly obvious death in "Revenge of the Sith." After all, Samuel Jackson, who played Windu, did say that his character is still alive, but it may also be that Jackson is apparently just messing around.
Talking to other fellow Star Wars enthusiasts or fans, doing searches on Google, and reading fan theories on Reddit will all guarantee different theories who Snoke is. Unfortunately, none of them have been officially confirmed by cast or production members.
Whatever theory it may be, it will be unlikely that fans will get their answers. "Episode IX" will surely not be about him with Kylo Ren and Rey building this rivalry. However, there may be other shows that explore Snoke and his background although there has been no news of that yet.
