"Sherlock" fans imitate the show's lead character by doing their own investigations about the detective's fate in season 4.

The first episode of "Sherlock" season 4 is still a few months away from airing on BBC One, but fans are already trying to find out what will be in store for them in the upcoming season by scrutinizing its trailer. However, according to series co-creator Mark Gatiss, the most obvious hints are actually more glaring compared to what they fans thought they found in the trailer.

"There are things that come to fruition in this series which we've been planning for years," Gatiss said in an interview with Radio Times. "But people also find things that aren't there. Which is my favourite. And then miss the blindingly obvious things that are there. People read an awful lot into it."

One of Gatiss' most favorite fan theories claimed that Moriarty committed suicide. This is allegedly based on Grimm's fairy tales. According to the series co-creator and the actor who portrays the role of Mycroft Holmes in the series, viewers could need to have a dossier to understand the plot if this theory comes true. According to Gatiss, "That's obviously not going to happen, because this has to be something for the casual viewer, who's not going to say 'Oh I see...'"

Meanwhile, series co-creator Steven Moffat told Digital Spy that he received offers from other networks to air the show outside BBC One. But Moffat said that he never considered anyone of them since BBC had always been supportive of "Sherlock."

"Sherlock" season 4 is slated to air three episodes in January 2017. According to Huffington Post, actor Toby Jones will appear in the show as the big villain in the upcoming season. Benedict Cumberbatch will also reprise the titular role, while Martin Freeman returns as Sherlock's trusted companion, Dr. John Watson.
