There are still a few weeks left before the premiere of the upcoming epic space opera film, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," but like every other "Star Wars" film in the past, the anticipation for it always reaches a whole new level when the release date is near. And in order to put in more hype to it, a new trailer was released by Lucasfilm.
In the video above, it's easy to tell that the purpose of the trailer is to showcase the difficulties of the Rebel Alliance in terms of figuring out a way to defeat the Death Star, a brand-new weapon that the Empire showed off with the objective of ending the rebellion for good. It will later be revealed in the film that the only way to do that is to find out how the weapon is made in the first place.
According to Wired, the trailer also provides a very important lesson, which is to show that there is always an opportunity and will to rebel and fight the dark forces and in the process, remain hopeful that the good side will overcome the bad in the end.
For starters, this upcoming film takes place before the events of "A New Hope," the 1977 "Star Wars" blockbuster. "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is unique from all other "Star Wars" films for the reason that it is regarded as the first-ever standalone anthology flick in the franchise. The storyline is centered on a bunch of spies working for the Rebel Alliance as they desperately try to steal the secrets of building the Death Star.
The upcoming film is composed of stars that include Felicity Jones in the starring role of Jyn Erso, along with Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen, and Mads Mikkelsen, among others.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is set to hit the big screen on Dec. 16.
