What Rick has been doing prior to his crazy adventures with his grandson in "Rick and Morty" has been a mystery that the show has to shed light on, but this will change in "Rick and Morty" season 3.

Dan Harmon, the co-creator of the hit Adult Swim animated series, revealed in a recent Reddit AMA session that fans will learn more about the mystery of the mad scientist in "Rick and Morty" season 3.

However, Harmon emphasized that what fans are expecting to see in Rick's murky past might not match what they had in mind.

"There will be some Rick back story in season 3 but it won't be quite what you'd expect when I say that and unfortunately that's all I can say," Harmon responded to one of the fan queries, still careful not to spill the beans.

Harmon also kept his cards close to his chest when pressed to provide information on the premiere date of "Rick and Morty" season 3, which they target to premiere before the year ends, but assured that they are going "as fast as we can" to complete it.

Either way, it looks like the new season is on track for a December premiere, with writers Erica Rosbe and Sarah Carbiener confirming a 2016 premiere of the new season, which is Harmon and co-creator Justin Roiland's target in the first place.

That being said, it looks like fans won't have to worry about "Rick and Morty" season 3 being delayed. Besides, even if it will not make it this year, the delay will definitely help make the show better.

When it comes to "Rick and Morty," Roiland and Harmon are perfectionists. In an interview with Shockya back in August, the former said that they do their best to meet the growing expectations of fans.

"We don't want to have a bad episode that's universally considered oh, that's Rick and Morty's — that may arguably exist already but I dunno," Roiland stated.
