The season 5 finale of "Ray Donovan" is airing soon, and now fans will be waiting again for the upcoming sixth season of the series. No specifics have yet been given on the plots for season 6 as well as its premiere date, but some updates should probably give everyone an idea of what to expect.

For one, after five seasons that have taken place in Los Angeles, season 6 will be seeing the titular character, played by Liev Schreiber, head to the East coast as the upcoming season will have him in New York City.

Showrunner David Hollander revealed the reason for Ray to move to the Big Apple. Ray initially went to Los Angeles to make a life for himself and for his family. However, they are no longer there, so now Ray is looking to get a fresh start somewhere else, which brings him to New York. While he thinks that he is in New York City to help his daughter, he will come to the realization that he is there to help himself.

Along with the new city, there will of course be some changes. Fans of the show have come to know Ray driving around Los Angeles in his car while talking on his phone as one of the iconic parts of the show. In an interview with TV Line, Hollander revealed that while Ray's silhouette remains intact in a lot of ways, there is also a chance to have the character really blend into the city just as how regular New Yorkers would. Hollander went on to explain that Ray will definitely be more on foot as he navigates the city.

As to why the sixth season would be moving to New York instead of staying in Los Angeles, Hollander explained that there were many factors that came to play regarding the decision. It was mainly about them trying to keep the show from going stale and therefore the shift to the East coast will force them to reinvent themselves and stay challenged.
