Game Freak's two new Pokemon video games for the Nintendo 3DS were well received by gamers and critics. "Pokemon Ultra Sun" and "Pokémon Ultra Moon" were released on Nov. 17.
"Pokemon Ultra Sun" and "Pokemon Ultra Moon" got a high score of 9 out of 10 from IGN. Both games were awarded 4 out of 5 from GamesRadar. The Ultra Sun edition had an extra edge compared with Ultra Moon according to Metacritic's rating. Metacritic gave Ultra Sun an 86 percent rating and 85 percent for Ultra Moon.

Both Pokemon games center on one story in the Alola region and will face the same villain Pokemon, Necrozma. Most of the reviews indicate that the story is well thought and well executed with additional characters like Ultra Recon Squad from the Ultra Wormhole dimension. The Recon Squad also comes with own Ultra Beasts Pokemon, UB Adhesive, UB Burst, and UB Assembly.
The game also presents an extensive Wormhole world with the Ultra Beasts and new areas. The Ultra Moon and Ultra Sun editions also come with a new content of catching shiny Pokemon.
Many Pokemon fans have been asking the developers which edition to buy. During an interview with GameSpot, director Kazumasa Iwao clarified that both Pokemon games are equal in all gaming elements. Iwao said, "In essence there's no real problem with whichever one you buy, you're going to get a really good experience in Pokemon." However, he also mentioned there are some distinct differences between Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Iwao explained that for people who played the Sun edition, they might consider going for the Ultra Moon this time for the sake of the Pokedex collection. He then reminded gamers who are after the storyline to purchase the Ultra Sun if they played the Sun edition and buy the Ultra Moon as a continuation to the story of Pokemon Moon.
