Nokia is about to release some new smartphones in 2017, and according to reports, the Finnish company has unveiled its plans for future handsets in the next two years.

In a slide presented at the company's Capital Markets Day 2016 event (via NDTV), it was stated that 2017 will see "Nokia brand's return to smartphones," and "Expanded VR leadership," among others. In 2018, the company is looking to have "continued incubation in new and adjacent areas" and "continued patent licensing growth and diversification."

According to GSMArena, Nokia won't be producing any of the Nokia-branded devices, but will act as the owner of the brand and its patents, and will oversee the creation of new phones. Among the devices rumored to make an appearance next year is the Nokia D1C, which has been spotted on benchmarking sites such as AnTuTu and Geekbench.

On Geekbench, it was indicated that the device with the model number D1C will be powered by a Snapdragon 430 chipset with an octa-core 1.4 GHz central processing unit (CPU), and Adreno 505 graphics processing unit (GPU). The device is said to have 3 GB of random access memory (RAM) and come preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat.

The smartphone is tipped to have a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It is also rumored to have 32 GB of internal storage, but it is unclear if the device will have a microSD card slot for memory expansion. The Nokia D1C is said to have a 13-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. In renders that appeared on Weibo that claim to show the Nokia D1C, it was revealed that the smartphone will come in three color variants: Black, White, and Gold.

As for the D1C's exact release date, it has been speculated that Nokia might unveil the phone at the Mobile World Congress in Berlin in February 2017, and the phone is expected to be released by the second quarter of next year.
