According to the latest reports, the Moto X4 smartphone will finally be replaced as the leading model in Motorola's X series. The 2018 version of the premium Moto X handset, or unofficially dubbed as the Moto X5, is expected to arrive next month. The recent leaks suggest that the Moto X5 will borrow one signature from Apple's current iPhone X flagship, which is the notch at the top display.
The first leaked images of Moto X5 this year were obatined by Droid Life, which clearly shows the iPhone X-like notch at the top portion of the screen. Most features of the handset in the leaks can be attributed to the classic Moto X build, although it cannot be denied that the Moto X5 has a bit of Apple's touch.
While there is a similarity in appearance due to the notch feature, the leaked images do not indicate if the Moto X5 2018 will get the same hardware capabilities as well. To note, the iPhone X notch contains the special camera module that supports the Face ID system, and it has yet to be seen if the alleged Moto X5 notch is needed for facial recognition. With the existence of the notch, the status icons are displayed on either side, although it is uncertain if the notification icons will be flashed under it.
The Moto X5 2018 leaks also reveal the handset's 5.9-inch display with 18:9 screen-to-body ratio and full HD+ resolution. The device also has rounded corners just like its supposed predecessor, the Moto X4. Meanwhile, the leaked renders share a resemblance with another leak for the Moto Z3, particularly the lack of fingerprint sensor. It seems that the Moto X5 2018 will rely on the dual-lens camera for a possible face unlock feature, similar to the iPhone X's Face ID. Although, it is also possible that the handset will sport an in-display fingerprint reader, which was first introduced by the latest Vivo smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last week.
Lenovo could have officially replaced the X series as its flagship smartphone lineup with the Moto Z, but if the Moto X5 2018 leaks are correct, the Moto X series could easily take back the spotlight. The rumored Moto handset is expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona this February. The Moto X5 is expected to be released alongside other mid-range products such as Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, and the 2018 Moto G variants, NDTV reported.
