The Lenovo-owned Motorola smartphones are among the users' top picks this year. Specifically, the company brought the public's interest back to the Moto label with the unveiling of Moto G6 handset. According to the latest reports, there will be another premium handset coming from the Moto G series, which is the Moto G6 Play.

Lenovo has not yet announced its lineup of smartphones set to arrive next year, although the ever-reliable tech tipster Evan Blass revealed that there will be two handsets getting the Play variant in 2018. One of the current Moto devices to receive the Play moniker is the Moto E5. The other Play smartphone, the Moto G6 Play, is expected to launch alongside E5 Play next year, boasting the same high-end features of the flagship handset while trimming down the cost.

To recall, Blass already teased that the Moto G6 Play will appear in the coming months. His latest tweet only shows that he is pretty confident that the latest G series phone will get the watered-down variant soon. If ever the G6 Play comes to fruition, this will not be unexpected as the previous G series devices also got the same treatment. Although, the Moto E5 Play will be remarkable as it will be the first in the Moto E lineup to receive the Play version.

Several new Moto G series smartphones have hit the market this year, starting with the Moto G5 and G5 Plus which were announced back in February. Interestingly, the Moto G5 does not have a Play variant yet, unlike its G4 predecessor. It has yet to be seen if Lenovo will release the Moto G5 Play, although that does not sound likely for now with the rumored launch of Moto G6 Play in 2018.

It appears that more Moto smartphones are getting the Play variant recently, especially if the rumored Moto G6 Play and E5 Play devices turned out to be correct. The new Play handsets are expected to join the fourth generation of the Moto X brand next year, as Blass also tipped that Lenovo might also announce the Moto X5 shortly after the recent Moto X4 launch in India.

Regarding the Moto G6 Play's specs, it is expected that the smartphone will sport a dual camera setup, similar to the Moto G5s Plus this year. Although, it is also possible that the dual-lens combo will be featured in the Moto G6 Plus instead, as the Play variant is known to be the cheaper edition of the original device.
