The Major League Baseball (MLB) team the Washington Nationals have had a rough few years in the league. Fortunately for them, the free agency pool is rife with players that could probably bolster their chances of winning a championship. Specifically, it is in the best interest of the Nationals to search for another player who would fit the role of a starter.

Last season, the Nationals made an unprecedented early exit during their postseason run after losing to the Chicago Cubs after five games. This, of course, was a very disheartening thing for the fans, as well as the players. Now, reports reveal that the Nationals are currently interested in Lance Lynn, a decent veteran who plays the position of right hander, and is now a free agent.

It is notable to mention that Lynn is currently being represented by Excel Sports.

This possible acquisition could turn things around for the Nationals, but there exists the issue of the team's standing with regard to their luxury tax cap. This issue is a rather pressing one, especially since the team had previously paid the hefty amount of $1.45 million for going past the luxury tax threshold. Although it was the team's first time to have to pay a fine, it is safe to assume that they would not want to make the same mistake for the upcoming season.

As of now, the Nationals have a solid roster, with players such as Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, and Tanner Roark. The acquisition of these players contributed to the Nationals going above the luxury tax threshold, but have failed to get to the finals last season. Another prospect that is perhaps worth looking at is A.J. Cole, who would be taking the position of the team's main pitcher if a deal can be made with him.
