A man has been arrested after cooking and eating his family dog.

Thomas Elliot Huggins, allegedly strangled his mother's dog, quartered it and boiled it last week.

The 25-year-old from Tampa, Fla. kept the extra meat in the freezer for future meals.

The 6-month-old pit bull mutt, named Bandit, was strangled by Huggins. Its ribs were found cooked in a pot and its head in the trash when police arrived. Authorities were alerted after a family member reported him, according to NBC Miami.

A Tampa Police Department report cites that Huggins' mother Margie showed one cop "a pair of full ribs on the stove that appeared to be fully cooked."

His sister also told cops that her brother "has not been right" for years, and "goes on and on about religion and the lord telling him to do things."

Huggins allegedly admitted to police that he "choked the dog with his bare hands" when it "began to be aggressive towards him." He explained that he cut the dog up with a steak knife, put the ribs in a pot and cooked it. He then said that he ate some of the meat.

Huggins is charged with animal cruelty and is currently in Hillsborough County jail. His bond has been raised from $2,000 to $10,000.
