The Hollywood film "Mamma Mia" is already scheduled to release a sequel for 2018. Unfortunately, this did not generate as much excitement as the producers probably had hoped, being that sequels do not fare as well as their original counterparts. In a recent interview, American actress Amanda Seyfried will be reprising her role and has stated that "Mamma Mia 2" will be exceeding fans' expectation -- or even prove to be better than the first film. 

In a report by Entertainment Weekly, Seyfried admitted that she initially had her own doubts about the sequel when she first heard of it. However, upon reviewing the script further, she was thoroughly pleased with what she had read. Seyfried then promised fans that the film, which is officially titled "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again," will be much better than the first.

The plot of the sequel will revolve around the original cast members in the present day, which means that fans will be able to see just how the characters have unfolded. On top of that, the sequel will also give audiences and fans a glimpse of Meryl Streep's character, Donna, back when she was still a free-spirited young woman who fell in love with different men. This backstory will undoubtedly provide a clearer explanation as to how Sophie came about.

In the same interview, it is said that it is precisely because of the interesting nature of Donna and her backstory that could be the key element as to why "Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again" would still prove to be appealing to viewers and ABBA fans alike. Seyfried stated that she herself was very curious about the past of Donna, "She's effervescent and inspired and amazing and has such a spirit. Meryl brought such light to this character," she said.

The young Donna will be played by Lily James. Perhaps the casting choice is very well executed, since Seyfried seems to think that the resemblance of the young and older versions of the character is uncanny. 

"Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again" is scheduled to be released on July 20, 2018.
