Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann from Leicestershire are combing Bulgaria for waitress Luisa Todorov, 58, who is believed to be the mystery woman referred to by two witnesses as "the woman in purple." Todorov was allegedly seen standing outside apartment 5a of an Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, Portugal, from where Madeleine was supposedly abducted a decade ago.

A witness testified having seen her by a lamp post outside the apartment wearing purple-plum clothes at around eight o'clock in the evening on May 3, 2007, the night Madeleine disappeared. Another witness saw her near the same location around half an hour later. The waitress's husband, Stefan Torodov, 50, was working at the tapas bar at the Ocean Club where along with her parents and seven holiday friends were dining when she disappeared.

According to the statement of one of the witnesses, Mrs. Todorov's shift ended at six o'clock in the evening, while her husband's started at eight o'clock at night having worked as a car painter in the day. The Todorov couple had previously denied any knowledge or involvement in the case and have not been heard of since then.

Heriberto Janosch González has been investigating the case for 10 years and is convinced that the woman in purple the witnesses are referring to is Mrs. Todorov. González said that he has been looking into the police files trying to identify the woman in purple. He added that Yard officers are reportedly in Bulgaria seeking the Todorovs.

Jenny Murat, 79, has told that she saw the woman outside the apartment and found it strange that she was standing alone on the street, just watching the apartment building. Murat's son Robert was the initial suspect in the case, but was cleared of suspicion a year after Madeleine went missing.
