'Madam Secretary' season 2 finale spoilers: will Elizabeth have to leave the White House?

Elizabeth McCord's (Tea Leoni) job may be on the line in the finale episode of "Madam Secretary" season 2.

In the upcoming episode, titled "Vartius," President Dalton (Keith Carradine) is contemplating replacing Elizabeth as U.S. Secretary of State. Elizabeth is known for constantly leading the White House out of tricky situations. She was responsible for solving a lot of political controversies that involved the POTUS. Removing her from the White House could mean trouble for Dalton and his presidency.

In the penultimate episode of "Madam Secretary" season 2, Elizabeth found out that Dmitri (Chris Petrovski) is still alive. This means that the events that happened after Dmitri was allegedly captured by the Russians could be discussed in the season 2 finale.

Is the situation involving Dmitri the same as Elizabeth's next case? According to the synopsis for the upcoming episode, "When Elizabeth receives shocking news about an important political operative, she navigates a tricky political situation with President Dalton, who she learns may be considering replacing her as Secretary of State."

Will the president's thoughts about firing Elizabeth affect her actions as she deals with the latest political problem that Dalton has to face? According to spoilers, Elizabeth has to urge Dalton to agree with an arrangement that could rescue Dmitri. If not, her husband Henry (Tim Daly) will not forgive himself for the fate of the Russian spy.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth and Henry will have another problem to face at home. According to spoilers, their daughter Stevie (Wallis Currie-Wood) is preparing to make a shocking announcement. The synopsis for the episode reads: "Stevie and Jareth (Christopher O'Shea) get engaged." Are the couple prepared to face the fact that their daughter is planning to get married soon?

The second season finale of "Madam Secretary" will air on CBS on Sunday, May 8.
