"Mad About You" could be the latest 1990s sitcom to get a revival with main stars Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser reportedly in talks to reprise their roles.

Sources close to the publication told TVLine that Sony Pictures Television Studios, which produced the series for NBC's "Must See TV" slate, has started informal discussions with Hunt and Reiser, who played New York couple Jamie and Paul Buchman.

According to insiders, Reiser, who co-created "Mad About You" with David Jacobson, is leading the show's comeback, which is currently pegged at a limited run.

A source added that the resurrected series would revolve around the couple suffering from empty nest syndrome, as their now 17-year-old daughter Mabel leaves home for college.

For years, Reiser was strongly opposed to the idea of reviving the iconic series. They even ended the show's seven-season run with a flash-forward 22 years later. He explained that their thinking at that time was, "Let's make sure we never get tempted to come back. Let's tell them what happens."

But in October, Reiser told People that he and Hunt have been "talking about" bringing back the series to explore a new chapter in their on-screen lives.

"If we can find the story to tell, and anybody's interested, I'd be open to it," he shared in the premiere night for "Stranger Things 2," where he played Dr. Sam Owens.

"Mad About You" ran for seven years from 1992 to 1999 and explored the lives of the newlywed Buchman couple and the domestic life in the Big Apple. The show and its iconic characters won several Golden Globes and Emmy Awards throughout its run.

"Mad About You" is the latest 1990s sitcom to be in talks for a revival, after the successful return of "Will and Grace," "Fuller House," and the upcoming "Roseanne" reboot.

Although "Mad About You" was previously aired on NBC, the Peacock network is reportedly not participating in the revival.
