Losing doesn't make you a loser: Here are 8 Bible verses to prove it

You don't have to be a sore loser when you experience deep dissatisfaction following a loss. Neither do you have to be arrogant, feeling entitled or overly ambitious.

Yes, losing can dampen the spirit of even the most optimistic people. From being defeated in a football match and missing out on a promotion to giving in to temptation and breaking a vow, losing can make us feel worthless and weak as it shatters our confidence.

But a loss doesn't automatically make you a loser. OK, well it might in layman's terms, but it doesn't define you. Our victory isn't characterised solely by our achievements whether earthly or spiritual—it's ultimately defined by Christ. We can never lose if Christ is in our hearts because He has already won the biggest battle for us.

When faced with the prospect of a certain victory or loss, the optimistic Christians among us may be urged on by empowering verses such as "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me," Philippians 4:13.

But how much does this proclamation define our approach to dealing with the aftermath of a defeat? The message of that verse isn't confined to having the strength to do the extravagant and the impossible, it also means having the strength to be able to tackle ordinary, everyday difficulties, too.

Philippians 4:13 isn't the only verse that can help you feel encouraged, supported and even victorious after defeat. The Bible is packed full of verses that can help make us feel every bit the winner since we are with Christ.

Here are eight of passages to remind you that whatever you lose in this life, you're forever victorious with Christ on your side.

Deuteronomy 20:4 – "For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."

Deuteronomy 28:7 – "The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven."

1 Corinthians 15:57 – "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Romans 8:37 – "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

1 John 5:4 – "For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith."

Ephesians 6:10-12 – "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

Psalm 34:19 – "The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all."

Hebrews 10:35-36 – "So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised."
