Life only becomes complicated when you allow it to get complicated €” Joyce Meyer

God did not create people only for them to live complicated lives since complications only steal joy and create confusion in people's lives, according to popular Christian speaker and author Joyce Meyer.

"Jesus gave His life so we could have joy (John 10:10), not live complicated, frustrated lives," she wrote on her website.

Personally, Meyer used to think that her own life was complicated since she had to travel around the world and do multitudes of speaking engagements. Because of her overwhelming schedule, Meyer found it difficult to enjoy the moment and appreciate everything she had.

However, when she started changing her perspective and putting God first in everything she did, Meyer realised that life only becomes complicated when people allow it to get complicated.

"Life is probably not going to change, but I've learned that — with God's help — I can change my approach to it. And making those changes starts with prayer," she said.

Prayers should be simple, she said, since it's simply talking to God without trying to impress Him with "eloquent speech that isn't really from your heart."

Once she prays, Meyer said she fully opens her mind for proper discernment. With this, she is able to deal with what she can do, and leave behind those she cannot do.

"Thank God I've learned how to determine what I really need to deal with and how to let the rest go. My life is so much better! Now I give God the chance to deal with things and then tell me if I need to do anything. Because the truth is, I don't have to be involved in everything that's going on," she said.

Meyer has also learned how to clear out the "clutter" in her life. She believes that people get frustrated and overwhelmed with their own lives because they have unnecessary clutter everywhere they look. And people might not like to acknowledge it, but one's surroundings definitely have an effect on a person's wellbeing.

"Some people have a hard time getting rid of stuff. If that's you, pray for God to give you the courage to get rid of things you don't really need or things He wants you to give away," she suggested. "This will help keep your surroundings organised and clutter-free."
