LG V40 ThinQ release date, specs news: V30 successor expected later this year

Following the launch of LG V30S ThinQ at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 last February, there have been some speculations regarding the next batch of smartphones coming from LG in 2018. The South Korean tech manufacturer has yet to confirm its plans for the V series, although the latest rumors hint that the V30 successor will be released later this year as the LG V40 ThinQ.

Prior to the MWC 2018 event, it was already rumored that LG would announce the V30 follow-up, but the public saw a slightly upgraded version of the original V30 smartphone released in 2017. Some people thought that the LG V40 would be delayed to a 2019 launch, but the latest scoop reveals that the next iteration is finally arriving this year. Per the renowned tech tipster on Twitter, evleaks, the LG V40 will also receive the ThinQ tag, implying that the device will get the same additional features in the V30S ThinQ.

As reported by Tech Radar, the V40 ThinQ was codenamed Storm, and the details in connection with its development are mostly kept under wraps in LG's laboratories. However, it is likely that the LG V40 ThinQ will be unveiled in late summer or early autumn, depending on the company's hectic schedule in the coming months.

For one, LG is also expected to release the LG G7 ThinQ, which would serve as the company's flagship for 2018. There is also a certain handset called the V35 ThinQ, which is another minor update from the current V30.

Last month, it was reported by the South Korean tech publication ET News that LG is indeed working on the V30 successor, and the device is targetted for a late 2018 release, possibly around in September or October. Considering the previous release dates of hardware from the LG V lineup, the V40 smartphone should arrive in late summer.

Some people thought that the LG V30S ThinQ could be the last entry to the V series for a while, which puts the fate of the LG V40 ThinQ in question. It is also worth considering that LG is currently experiencing financial shake-ups, which would affect the release of its upcoming devices. With the V30S ThinQ only released a few months ago, it might not be too convenient for LG to release another V series phone this year.
