Two of the most anticipated premium phones from LG this year are the LG G7 and the LG V30 successor that is still unnamed at this point. With the G series having a complete refresh, the public can only expect the V30 follow-up coming up soon, although recent rumors suggest that the LG V30 will be re-launched instead. This might not sound like good news to some users, although it is expected that the 2018 version of the smartphone will showcase artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
The first scoop regarding the improved LG V30 handset in 2018 came from The Korea Herald, claiming that the complete moniker for the device will be the V30+α, or read as V30 Alpha. It can be noted that the South Korean tech firm announced that it is abandoning the annual release of new flagship updates just for the sake of catching up with its rivals. Instead, the company is bringing additional features to its existing prodicts, and in the case of the LG V30, the public can expect the device to boast AI functionalities.
Aside from the rumor that the 2018 LG V30 smartphone will get AI capabilities, only a few details are known regarding the complete lineup of specs of the upcoming handset. It is still uncertain if the new LG V30 version will feature major hardware overhauls compared to the original device released last year. To note, the noticeable improvements introduced by the LG V30 over its predecessor are the camera module boost and enhanced OLED display with thinner bezels. There is a possibility that LG will launch the V30 Alpha with most features carried from the 2017 V series iteration, aside from the fact that the most recent one will get necessary chip upgrades to handle AI functions.
As for the release date of the all-new LG V30 2018 smartphone, GSMArena expects that the device will likely be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona by the end of February. LG has no other products to unvei during the said tech expo, especially now that the G7 refresh will take more time to develop until it is ready for release. With this, the company will only be left with the new V30 with AI capabilties to showcase at the MWC 2018.
