Lexus unveiled the LF-1 Limitless Concept at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this week. The new concept vehicle previews what a flagship crossover from Toyota's luxury division may look like.

According to the automaker, the LF-1 Limitless Concept showcases their newest design language called "molten katana." The expressive and engaging design features styling cues that are inspired by the organic transition from smooth to chiseled — similar to how liquid metal is forged into a traditional Japanese sword.

It is with this philosophy that the fluid but aggressive design of the LF-1 Limitless was formed.

The concept vehicle has athletic proportions and a powerful stance. The front fascia features an evolved design of Lexus' signature spindle form grille with three-dimensional ridges radiating away from the center emblem. Instead of chrome accents, there is LED lighting around the grille.

The LF-1 Limitless also has a low roofline, high ground clearance, rear-wheel-drive chassis and 22-inch wheels.

Inside, there is a spacious cabin that is luxurious, open and warm. To create an unobstructed dashboard, Lexus removed analog knobs and buttons in place of motion-activated controls and minimalist displays. There is a touchpad on the center console for data entry while there are haptic controls on the steering wheel and the rear seat center console. With Chauffer mode, drivers can even have hands-free operation of the vehicle.

The interior features the same champagne metallic trim as the exterior but with a satin finish. The metallic accents, as seen in the instrument panel and the steering wheel, go nicely with the Cocoa Bean leather upholstery and Chiffon White leather seats.

As its name implies, Lexus' newest concept vehicle will see no limits when it comes to powertrains. It is suitable as a fuel cell, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, gasoline or an all-electric vehicle. According to Lexus, this is in line with their vision of having all their models with an electrified powertrain by 2025.
