Katy Perry's mother, Mary Hudson, has thrown her support for American Idol contestant Cade Foehner after watching a video of his performance of Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower."

Foehner, 21, had revealed to Perry during the show that he is a Christian minister. After his performance, Perry remarked that she "saw some things that her minister parents had to shun."

"I'm a minister too, so it's OK," the contestant replied. Perry then complimented the singer saying he is a star whether he wins the competition or not.

Foehner, who was one of the top 24 contestants on the show, has been vocal about his faith in his online profiles. In his Twitter bio, he invites followers to "talk Jesus" and "make sweet tunes."

Prior to his performance on Sunday, the Idol contestant greeted his followers "Happy Lord's day!" and urged them to watch the show "to see what I did to make Katy Perry faint."

On Monday, Perry watched a video of the performance again with her mother and streamed it on Instagram.

During the livestream, Hudson revealed that she had danced with Hendrix once in Majorca. She further admitted that she once smoked marijuana but did not enjoy it.

Hudson, a traveling evangelist, went on to compliment Foehner in his performance saying, "I love Cade because he's got the whole package. He's a minister, he's singing rock and roll. The guys good!"

Perry started in the music industry singing Christian music, but eventually turned to pop music. The singer had stated that she had turned away from the faith because of her strict religious upbringing as a child, but she appears to be on good terms with her parents.

In a recent public therapy session, Perry acknowledged that she has disagreement with her parents, but she maintained that they do not have hostility for each other.

"It wasn't always easy because we have very different viewpoints but now we can agree to disagree in a loving space," she said, according to The Christian Post.

On Sunday's episode of American Idol, Mary Hudson and her husband Keith were in the audience and were seen chatting with host Ryan Seacrest, who asked them to tell the viewers some stories about their daughter.

Perry had drawn criticism from viewers last month after she kissed an unwilling contestant on the lips. The contestant later revealed that he was a staunch conservative and did not want Perry to kiss him on the lips because he wanted his first kiss to be special.
