Jesus Christ was Himself a refugee, says Franklin Graham as he urges compassion for the thousands flooding into Europe

Some people might seem indifferent to the plight of refugees, but Reverend Franklin Graham is urging people, particularly Christians, to show more compassion to them, especially since Jesus Christ himself was a refugee.

"As we remember 9/11 this week, the Middle East is collapsing and people are fleeing in huge numbers, flooding into Europe desperately trying to find safety," he wrote on his Facebook page. "Today Germany announced that they can take up to 500,000 refugees annually and expects 800,000 refugees this year alone. France said they could take 24,000, and UK said they would accept 20,000 by 2020."

Graham said Jesus Christ sympathises with the world's refugees because He understands the plight they are currently going through.

"Have you ever thought about the fact that He was a refugee? When Jesus was a baby his parents, Mary and Joseph, had to take him and flee to Egypt to escape the murderous ruler, King Herod. Can you imagine what it would be like to have to flee your home with only what you could carry?" the evangelist said.

A lot of refugees not only struggle with displacement and homelessness, but many also live in fear and are threatened by hunger, sicknesses, and death.

"Join me in praying for the millions of refugees and for solutions to be found for this staggering crisis," encouraged Graham.

He recently visited his father, the legendary evangelist Billy Graham and they talked about the latter's new book called "Where I Am: Heaven, Eternity, and Our Life Beyond."
