Healing crystals, as they are called, are considered by many as helpful in curing or providing healing to various conditions. They aren't backed by scientific data, and more importantly, they are not backed by Scripture. God's word actually opposes them.
That said, is it OK for Christians to use healing crystals? Are we allowed to use such gems or stones to achieve healing?
Let's talk about that.
Healing or deceiving?
A quick search on the internet will tell us that the use of healing crystals, or gems and stones believed to have "healing powers," are closely associated with mystic practices. In fact, it is heavily associated with the New Age spiritual movement.
According to Wikipedia, some crystal healing practitioners place such crystals on specific parts of the body, often corresponding to what is called "chakras" – an Indian belief about "wheels of energy [found] throughout the body."
Users choose crystals according to an attraction called a "psychic affinity," and each crystal is chosen because of its believed "inherent power." Some are believed to have "grounding powers" while some "enable contacts with spirit guides and angels."
Sounds pretty demonic, if you ask me.
The New Age movement introduces all sorts of teachings contrary to the teachings of Christ. It teaches a spirituality different from what Christ teaches, emphasizes a peace apart from God, and disguises demonic activity as if it were legitimate and acceptable to Christ.
So, is it OK for Christians to use healing crystals? After all, they are believed to have healing powers, right?
NO. The answer is "no."
Aren't these just stones?
Friends, in the Bible we read of stones being used for Godly purposes, albeit not for healings and the like.
The high priest in the Old Testament, for example, wore a breastplate featuring twelve stones. Exodus 28:17-21 says these stones - sardius, topaz, emerald, turquoise, sapphire, diamond, jacinth, agate, amethyst, beryl, onyx, and a jasper - are representative of the twelve tribes of Israel, and every time the priest ministers he represents all the people to God (see Exodus 28:29-30).
In Revelation 21 there is also another list of precious stones, all of them set in New Jerusalem. All of these stones were set to beautify the foundations of the wall of this city.
Each and every stone was created by God for Him (see Colossians 1:16). These stones, even the plain ones we see lying on the roadside, give praise and glory to God (see Luke 19:40). As such, they are for God alone.
When we use such stones for occult or New Age practices, however, we violate God. Some may say that they are "just stones" to justify their use. If that's the case, why believe in their "healing powers" in the first place?
Have we ever?
One thing we might forget is that as Christians, we are to consecrate ourselves unto God and God alone. Have we ever realized that God is a holy God, and wants all of His people to consecrate themselves to Him, and stop defiling themselves with anything that isn't His? In Leviticus 20:26, God tells us,
"And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine."
Furthermore, since such crystal healing and mystic practices are associated with or introduce occultic or demonic teachings and beliefs, such as spirit guides, to us, we are to be separate from them:
"Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God." (Leviticus 19:31)
"And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?" (see 2 Corinthians 6:15-16)
Let us keep in mind that the devil will use all sorts of deceitful tactics to lure us away from the simplicity of the Gospel of Christ.
"For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect." (Matthew 24:24)
"For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light." (2 Corinthians 11:13-14)
In closing
My dear friends, I would like all of us to look at the cross because that's where our healing is. There Christ died and shed His blood for our sins and healing. There's no better and true source of complete healing other than Christ.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)
