Apple made an announcement earlier this week regarding the new color variant of last year's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The Cupertino-based tech giant's premium handsets are about to get a new red finish, although it is expected that the over-all design and features of the new iPhone 8 red variant are just the same as those of the original.

As reported by CNBC, Apple has unveiled the new red color variant of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on Monday, which arrived roughly four months after the launch of the original handset at the company's Fall hardware event.
To note, Apple has been creating the special red finish of its premium iPhone models, although the new color usually takes a couple of months to hit the market. For example, the red color option for the iPhone 7 was only made available in March 2017.
As for the red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the new variant will become available starting on April 13. For those who are not aware of the significance of Apple's special red handset, the portion of every sale of the device will go to the non-profit organization, The Global Fund, which has made a great contribution over the years in fighting HIV and AIDS.
Per Mashable, Apple has already shared a total of $160 million contribution to the Global Fund since the two companies' partnership was established in 2006. The reception of the public to these special iPhone red variants has been positive, with last year's red iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus raking in a total profit of $30 million. At this point, Apple is the biggest contributor to the Global Fund.
It is worth noting that Apple has yet to announce a new red color option for the iPhone X. Instead, the company's latest flagship smartphone will get a special red leather casing. The red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, on the other hand, will still have the same wireless charging capabilty, fast mobile processor, and improved camera features.
The red iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is now available for online purchasing, while the physical units will hit the stores on April 13. The handset is currently priced at $699.
