Niantic Labs' first-ever augmented reality video game "Ingress" is getting a major upgrade. Niantic announced it is working on a new and improved "Ingress Prime" AR game to be released in 2018.
Niantic Labs made the announcement during the EXO5 after-party in San Francisco last Dec. 2. Also part of the announcement is an "Ingress" anime.
The video game developer then released the official trailer of "Ingress Prime" on YouTube, with the video description, "Change is coming." The AR game "Ingress" was released on Nov. 15, 2012 for Android and July 14, 2014 for iOS. "Ingress" is a science fiction game and has a continuous narrative. Just like in "Pokemon GO," players can choose their teams, or in the case of "Ingress," factions. The story of the game centers on the discovery of new technology that directs players to extraterrestrial life on planet earth.
There are not much information about the gameplay and narrative story of "Ingress Prime." According to the game's description on its official website, "Ingress Prime" will focus on a secret war in the modern world. The description reads, "Something is very wrong, Agent. The world is not as it seems. A secret war is taking place in the shadows, and you have the power to mold the fate of this universe. But you'll need the right people and you'll need a very special piece of technology: Ingress Prime."
The mobile game "Ingress" received impressive score ratings from video game critics. Pocket Gamer gave the application an 8 out of 10 score.

The year 2018 is a big year for Niantic Labs. The video game company recently announced an AR game inspired by the "Harry Potter" franchise coming in 2018.
