It looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is adding Nick Fury (Samuel Jackson) to one of the casualties of the great and upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War," as evidence suggests that the character may experience a major happening in the film.
It was Jackson himself who teased what is to be expected for Fury come "Infinity War." The actor took to Instagram to upload a photo of him undergoing a lifecasting. The cast appears to be colored green and is applied throughout Jackson's head down to his chest. It can be assumed that it was for a model of his face without the signature eye patch he is wearing in the MCU films.
Jackson also apparently dozed off during the cast application and only woke up once the cast had to be removed. Additionally, fans pointed out that the color of the cast itself is suspect to presumptions that Fury himself could be falling into the hands of the Skrull, a green-skinned alien race in the Marvel universe notorious for kidnapping superheroes and key figures in the franchise and replacing them with lookalikes that infiltrate the Avengers or other factions of Earth.
Skrulls are shapeshifters and have caused a lot of trouble for the different teams of the Avengers in the comic books and at one time, nearly replaced all the members of the superhero collective. Why and how Fury will be undergoing the Skrull treatment in the MCU remains to be seen, though the said lifecast was apparently done for "Infinity War" meaning the new plot twist for Fury will happen as early as the timeline of that movie.
Moreover, Fury becoming a Skrull could have dire implications for the Avengers since distinguishing the Skrull infiltrator from the person it is copying has been proven to be quite difficult. As it is, Fury was already hard to trust as was shown in movies like "Captain America: Winter Soldier," meaning the next Avenger lineup is going to have their work cut out for them.
"Avengers: Infinity War" is set to be released on Apr. 25 worldwide.
