Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is going against the White House in season 7 of "Homeland."

Peter Quinn's (Rupert Friend) death in the season 6 finale left a hole in Carrie's heart that would be very difficult to fill. She is also untrusting of the U.S. government, particularly the Oval Office, now more than ever.

Her mentor and bestfriend, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), was arrested after an attempt on the life of President Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel), just a few days before her inauguration.

Carrie says it is an abuse against civil rights, but the administration is doubtful of everyone around it. This is the main reason why Carrie will be aghast when suddenly Saul is appointed as National Security Adviser, furthering her theory that there is a conspiracy within the Keane administration.

Carrie does not understand why the man he looks up to is working for a government she deems as corrupt, and she wants to find out why. That would mean going back to her roots.

"Carrie's been on the periphery for a while now, and opted out of the intelligence game, and I think she's ready to re-enter it, and re-engage -- put her spy back on," Danes told Deadline in June, fresh from the season 6 finale. "I look forward to that, because she's excellent at what she does, and it's really enjoyable to play that."

Knowing the bond between Carrie and Saul, however, fans can expect that their two-man team will reunite sometime in the 12-episode season.

Quinn's death left one important vacant role in the crime drama, and Showtime has earlier announced that he will be somewhat replaced by James D' Arcy ("Agent Carter"). He will play Anson, a bigheaded former special ops agent who attended The Farm, or the Central Intelligence Unit's Camp Peary, with Carrie.

"Homeland" season 7 premieres Feb. 11, Sunday, 9 p.m. EDT, on Showtime.
