The highly anticipated "GTA 6" is now being developed, if news about its development turns out to be true.

A source told TechRadar that initial work for "Grand Theft Auto 6" has begun, but Rockstar Games has yet to decide where the next game will be set.

The title of the rumored new "GTA 6" remains under wraps, and the status of its development is still unrevealed. This means that it would be hard to determine when the new game will be released.

According to the report, it is not a surprising move from Rockstar to start working on a new installment for the widely popular "Grand Theft Auto" video game franchise since its predecessor, "GTA 5," has been in the market since 2013.

The report also mentioned that Rockstar Games almost considered making a "Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo" and even went to the capital city of Japan a few years ago for ocular inspection. A team from the game studio reportedly took several photos of the area and talked to some of its locals to get the general feel of the city. This all happened during the time when the game studio was developing "GTA 3" and "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," between 2001 and 2002.

However, the studio reportedly chose not to push through with the idea even if Rockstar's owner Take-Two Interactive already filed for "GTA: Tokyo," "GTA: Bogota," and "Grand Theft Auto: Sin City" trademarks in December 2013.

According to the source, Rockstar learned that it would be very hard to develop a new "Grand Theft Auto" game set in a city outside the United States since they will have to change a lot of the components of the game if it is set in a foreign city.
