Something explosive is about to happen in Grey's Anatomy when it returns for its 13th season. The shocking event will happen immediately after Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia's (Caterina Scorsone) wedding, which had its fair share of drama by almost never happening.

"Immediately on the tail of Amelia and Owen's wedding, there's a big explosive drama that's happening right away. On Grey's Anatomy it could be a  literal explosion, but in this case, it's emotionally explosive. It's going to be a key story this year that a lot of people are going to be interested in," Scorsone shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress also teased that following the events at the wedding, there will be a focus on the sisterly bond among Amelia, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), and Maggie (Kelly McCreary), who also have to deal with their own drama when Maggie confesses that she is falling for Nathan, who slept with Meredith last season.

"Grey's Anatomy's" 13th season will also focus on the original cast members but Alex's (Justin Chambers) storyline may be connected to Jo (Camilla Luddington) and DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), whom he beat up last season when he found them together after Jo's rejection of his marriage proposal.

"Because Alex misinterpreted the situation and beat DeLuca so badly, he's going to have a lot of legal consequences to deal with," Gianniotti said.

Gianniotti has been promoted to series regular, but there have been hints that he is one of the characters in danger of permanently saying goodbye to the show after this season.

"Yeah. I directed that last episode last year. He was in trouble. I can just let you know that we pick up where we left off, so it's going to be a hot opening," EP and director Debbie Allen shared about the season premiere.

Grey's Anatomy season 13 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
