Google has finally started shipping Pixel Buds, a month after Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were released. The Bluetooth ear buds have been on sale since then, but it took Google a bit longer to set them out.
The Google Pixel Buds was highly-anticipated for its very user-friendly features. Its highlight is the real-time translation. With these ear buds, the user will not have to worry about coming across other languages. When paired with a Pixel phone, they can translate conversations from over 40 supported languages as they are said. Note that the Google Translation application is supposed to be open on the phone for this to work.
The buds also come with Google Assistant, a signature feature from the tech giant that now appears in almost all its gadgets. Touching the right ear bud will make it relay basic information like time and other notifications. Still with the right ear bud pressed, the user can also ask questions, which Google Assistant can answer through the Pixel Buds.
They are connected to the phone via Bluetooth and Android's fast pair feature. This, however, only works for Android 7.0 Nougat devices and up. Those using lower Android versions or connecting to iOS and computers need to connect it manually.
The buds are not completely wireless, as the two buds are connected by a wire. The loop size is adjustable, depending on what the user deems will keep it securely in place.
As for the sound quality, Ben Schoon of 9to5Google declared it "impressive" after his first 24 hours of using the device. The tech expert praised its clear sound, depth and bass, saying that it is the best earphones he has tried in recent memory.
While early orders for the Pixel Buds have been accommodated, those who are late to the party will have to wait to get theirs as all colors — black, white and blue — are now out of stock. Google Store has re-opened orders for the product at $159 each.
