Atheists have been complaining about the faith-based film "God's Not Dead 2" by Pure Flix Entertainment, saying it is "full of fake Christian persecution."

However, actor and producer David A.R. White cannot understand their objections. "It's an interesting thing, because, if it wasn't real, why do they get so offended by it?" White told The Blaze. "I don't think it would annoy people if it wasn't true."

White said there isn't anything "fake" about the films because they are based on true-to-life situations. "At the end of 'God's Not Dead 1′ and even part two, we throw up about 50 different court cases that are dealing with similar issues right now," he said.

Because of this, the movie franchise is making deep and lasting impacts on people's faith. "All of these emails and tweets and people that have been moved over and over and over by the movie, that they're still watching it," he said. "They're still writing in about how this movie changes their lives or changes someone's life that they know."

"It's not just a movie. It's more than a movie," he added.

As to why they chose a teacher narrative for "God's Not Dead 2," White explained that they wanted to depart from the plot of the first movie, which focused on atheist Professor Radisson (played by Kevin Sorbo). The atheist professor threatened to fail his student Josh Wheaton after he insisted that God is real.

"In the first one, we had a student who was a male and we really wanted to tell it from a female's perspective," said White. That's why they got actress Melissa Joan Hart to play the role of Christian teacher Grace Wesley. He added that "God's Not Dead 2″ "takes it a step further" to tackle the question of who Jesus truly is and "is He really the son of God?"
