Two months after announcing his lung cancer diagnosis, evangelist Luis Palau is praising God after receiving news that there has been an improvement in his condition after undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Palau, who has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, took to Facebook earlier this week to share the results of a recent CT scan and blood test.

"All tumors had shrunk by one-third! No new growth of the tumors whatsoever. All fluid around my lungs was resolved. Blood work looked good," the 83-year-old evangelist exclaimed.

He said that the doctors were "amazed" by the results and further noted that the medical team had initially stated that the chemotherapy was only intended to slow the growth of the tumors.

"They never expected the treatment to actually reverse the growth. Everyone is very encouraged and praising the Lord for the wonderful news," he wrote.

Palau explained that the results had given the doctors the confidence to give him another round of the same therapy. The evangelist praised God and asked his followers for further prayers as he undergoes another round of therapy, noting that the treatment is "not easy on the body."

"It is still a battle. The outcome is still unknown. We take it one day at a time, trusting the Lord. But today we are very encouraged! Thank you for your prayers!" the post concluded.

Palau made the announcement about his lung cancer diagnosis in a video posted on YouTube last January.

Palau's son, Kevin, explained in the video that the evangelist had suffered from a "kind of a chest cold... that wouldn't go away" after returning from a trip to the U.K. in December.

The family learned that Palau had cancer in his lungs and found out in January that the disease was already in stage 4, which was the most advanced stage. Lung cancer patients at that stage are typically given a five-year survival rate of less than 10 percent.

Palau noted at the time that it would "take literally a miracle" to cure him of the disease.

In the video, Andrew gave his assurance that Palau's sons and his ministry would carry on with its mission while he recovers from cancer.

Kevin has been elected to be president of Palau's ministry 10 years ago, while his other son, Andrew, has been anointed as an evangelist.

Palau and his ministry have worked with hundreds of churches to bring the Gospel to cities across the globe, including London, Mexico City, Madrid, Moscow, Washington D.C., Hong Kong and Singapore.

A feature length film about Palau's life has been slated for release in theatres in North America, South America and Spain in October 2018.
