Almost two months after CBS itself confirmed that "Elementary" is returning for a fifth season, fans of the American procedural drama are already excited to find out when the show will return, and what will happen to the characters, particularly main protagonists Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Joan Watson.

While the exact air date of "Elementary" Season 5 has yet to be announced by CBS, the show will surely return this Fall, according to a report on Christian Times.

This projection of the premiere date is based on the fact that the show's first two seasons started airing in September, while the third and fourth seasons premiered late October and early November.

As for the next season's plot, "Elementary" executive producer Rob Doherty hinted in an interview last month with Entertainment Weekly that Sherlock Holmes might expand his social circle as the show continues.

Doherty said Holmes' character, played by actor Jonny Lee Miller, has shown in the past seasons that he is someone who is "willing to pull more people in."

"There is a possibility that he will be open to more people entering his social circle. As we get into season 5, he knows what works for him," Doherty told Entertainment Weekly.

"He knows a good thing when he sees it. Lucky for him, he has many good things in his life now. That's not to say there won't be hard times. I don't believe he's going to make any changes that would echo the decision his father makes at the end of the finale," he added.

Doherty further confirmed that the upcoming season will further explore the romantic story arc between Holmes and Fiona Helbron, a software engineer played by Betty Gilpin.

"As we get into next season, Fiona is someone that we would like to see again. We'll see what the state is for that relationship after a few months have passed," he said.
