'Duck Dynasty' star Missy Robertson on her new books, says they have 'godly content for young girls and teens'

"Duck Dynasty" star Missy Robertson and her daughter, Mia, have worked on something exciting. The two of them released a series of fiction books for young girls and teens that will hopefully inspire them to embrace their uniqueness and live faithfully amidst life's trials.

The series is called Princess in Camo, and the first two books - "Running from Reality" and "Allie's Bayou Rescue" - were released last February. The books are based on Mia's life and her relationship with her cousins and their adventures, so Missy said it wasn't hard to write.

"The harder part was making sure the stories came across in a way that also had a broader aspect of, 'What are we doing on this Earth, and how can we interact with others in a God-honoring, healing way?' We wanted to make sure we filled a void out there in terms of positive, godly content for young girls and teens," Missy told The Christian Post.

Another challenge, according to Missy, was seeing eye to eye with her daughter on certain things. Mia was born with a cleft lip and palate, so she wanted the main character, Allie, to have the same characteristics in order to show other girls afflicted with the same condition how they can overcome life's challenges - mentally and physically. But Mia was against it.

Instead, Allie suffers from allergies. Personally, Missy thought it was great to have a character deal with those issues because one in three children in the U.S. are affected by it. "So many kids have struggled through that and had to figure out how to do life, so we decided to go with that," Missy said. "In each book, Allie experiences obstacles and challenges and has to figure out how to overcome them, just like every young person today."

The book also showcases the day-to-day interactions of Allie with her cousins. Oftentimes, they get annoyed with each other. But the books show how the kids deal with it in a "Christ-like manner."

Missy said she has always taught Mia that is is never acceptable to be unkind, so the Princess in Camo books will hopefully teach other kids the same thing. "These books show that actions and words matter; it's important to include others and make them feel a part of a group," she explained. "That's how God treats us, and that's what these books drive home. Through these books, we hope young people are encouraged to embrace one another and be kind and merciful to one another, flaws and all."
