Donald Trump on favourite Bible verses: 'I don't want to get into it; it's very personal'

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump answers questions from reporters at a campaign fundraiser in Norwood, Massachusetts, on Aug. 28, 2015.

In a pep rally in Alabama last week attended by some 30,000 people, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump said the Holy Bible is his favourite book.

Trump, however, declined to share his favourite Bible verses when asked about them during an interview on Bloomberg television, saying his favourite quotes from the Holy Scriptures were "very personal."

TV host John Heilemann asked the controversial businessman to expound on why the Holy Bible became his favourite book. "You mentioned the Bible and talked about how it was your favourite book and you said, I think last night in Iowa, some people are surprised you say that. I am wondering what one or two of your most favourite Bible verses are and why?" Heilemann said.

To this, Trump replied, "I wouldn't want to get into it because to me that's very personal. You know, when I talk about the Bible, it's very personal. I don't want to get into it."

Despite Trump's negative response, Heilemann pressed him: "There is no verse that means a lot to you that you think about or cite?"

The controversial Republican candidate, however, maintained that he doesn't want to go into specifics, saying the Bible "means a lot" to him.

When asked by co-host Mark Halperin if he likes the Old Testament or the New Testament more, Trump responded, "Probably equal. I think it's just incredible. The whole Bible is incredible."

Trump earlier said he is a Protestant, and that he likes going to church.

In a related news, Trump is once again drawing flak for re-tweeting a message calling FOX host Megyn Kelly a "bimbo."

Fox News CEO and Chairman Roger Ailes said this is a "disturbing" attack on the female journalist.

"Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at FOX News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise," Ailes said in a statement.
