Christian Senator James Lankford shares how call of God made him enter politics

Earlier this month, Republican Senator James Lankford made headlines for being one of the lawmakers who called for the suspension of Hillary Clinton's security clearances over her handling of highly classified information while US Secretary of State.

Behind the courageous politician, however, is a devout Christian. In an interview with CBN News, Senator Lankford shared how God's voice prompted him to enter politics.

One seemingly regular day in 2010, Lankford had just finished praying when he read that his local congresswoman, Mary Fallin, was running for governor. Upon seeing this news, something astonishing happened to him.

"It's as if it jumped off the page and I heard God say, 'That's what I want you to do,'" Lankford told CBN News. "And it wasn't audible; it wasn't a big boom. It was just this overwhelming sense 'You asked me before what I was looking for. That's it.'"

"And I remember just leaning back in my chair and thinking, 'Well, that's insane,'" he added. "That's not even rational, but I just couldn't shake it. It was just one of those crystal clear moments."

Because of this, Lankford decided to leave his responsibility as a Baptist minister running a youth programme at Falls Creek, the largest Christian camp in the world. And he used his and his wife's savings to join the Republican primary.

Senator Lankford's wife Cindysaid that her husband only has one motivation in everything he does, be it in politics or in everyday life: honouring Jesus Christ.

"Every part of what he does is to honour Christ, to be obedient to Him, to know Him and make Him known," Cindy also told CBN News. "And it's evident in everything that he does and so it's very fun because something that we get to do now is watch God unfold things that we wouldn't have seen before."
