With "Captain Marvel" not due out until 2019, not much is known about the movie yet. However, thanks to a new behind-the-scenes photo, fans may have just learned a juicy detail specifically about Samuel L. Jackson's character, Nick Fury.
Hot off the set of the film, the actor has uploaded a cryptic picture of himself getting a face cast made on his Instagram account. "Caught a lil' nap while going thru the process today!" Jackson captioned the photo which sees him covered in green goo.
According to Screen Rant, the sticky substance is used for traditionally making an exact copy of someone's face to ensure all prosthetic make-up would fit perfectly. As "Captain Marvel" is set to feature a young and two-eyed Fury, some are speculating that the cast would play a part on how he lost his left eye to become the eyepatched hero everyone knows from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Others, however, are suspecting he will undergo a major change in the movie.
In the comments section of his Instagram post, some followers suggested that Nick Fury could end up being a Skrull in disguise. The alien race mentioned usually deploys agents into the target planet's society to destabilize it, making it easy for them to plant their flag on the ground. "Captain Marvel" will see them try to invade Earth, leading to speculations that Fury may be kidnapped in the process and replaced by a Skrull agent.
Kevin Feige has already confirmed that the SHIELD leader's early days with the organization will play a big part of the upcoming film. This could mean that the MCU is on the cusp of a major twist for Jackson's character. If not, the rendering could simply be a way to help show a younger version of Fury given the film is set in the '90s. Regardless, fans will have to wait a whole year for definite answers.
Starring Brie Larson as the titular character, "Captain Marvel" opens in cinemas on March 8, 2019.
