It seems likely that "Call of Duty" ("COD") will be the next hot thing in the gaming community this year with rumors circulating that a new video game from the beloved franchise will make its way to popular consoles — Sony's PlayStation 4, PC and even Nintendo Switch.

Activision's newest venture into the "COD" franchise is rumored to be "Black Ops 4" —  in line with "multiple sources" cited by Eurogamer.

According to the game-centralized website, "Black Ops 4" is currently in the works at Treyarch, a video game developer responsible for the previous installations of the "Black Ops" series.

Talks of the development and release were first ignited on Twitter where a self-professed "industry insider" named Marcus Sellar broke the news regarding the videogame tycoon's planned release.

In his tweet, he also discussed what consoles will get to play the game.

"COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familiar with COD games," Sellars disclosed in his tweet.

Sellars in a following tweet even gave a prediction saying the game will be a cut above the others in the franchise roster in terms of sales. "Prediction: Black Ops 4 will be the best selling COD game. You heard it here first!"

The first-person shooting game is hinted to be set at a not-so-distant future seeing as there have been heavy backlash on its predecessor 2016's space-themed shooter "COD: Infinite Warfare."

"Call of Duty" is a first-person shooting series which gained popularity in the early years of 2000 primarily attributed to its incredible and defined realism. Spin-offs of the said game have also been produced and released throughout the years.

When asked to comment on the issue, Activision declined to release a statement to Eurogamer.
