Brazil will take on Holland on Saturday in the World Cup third place play-off at the Estadio Naciona in Brasilia. Both teams are recovering from the heartbreak of losing in the semi-finals, just one game from the dream game – for Netherlands, the heartache of losing on penalties, and for Brazil, the embarrassment of being completely taken apart 7-1 by Germany.

This is the 12<sup>th match between these two teams, and in the 11 games so far the spoils have been split evenly, with both teams winning three, and there being five draws.

Some call the third-place playoff irrelevant though, and Dutch coach Louis van Gaal is one of them: "There is only one award that counts and that is becoming world champions. The worst thing is that there is a chance you are going to lose twice in a row. And in a tournament in which you have played so marvelously well you go home as a loser," he has said ahead of the game.

The Netherlands won the last World Cup game between these two teams, and that came in the 2010 tournament when Holland won 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

These two teams have committed the most fouls of all the teams in this year's competition; Brazil have committed 107 fouls, compared to Holland who have committed 106 fouls.

For Brazil if they let in any goals today it will be their worst defensive record at any World Cup ever. At the moment they have scored 11 and conceded 11 (with 7 of course coming against Germany in their semi-final), which equals their worst ever defensive record if conceding 11 at the 1938 World Cup.
