Fans have dug up pretty much anything that Gearbox or Take-Two Interactive says or does that can become a possible clue to "Borderlands 3." Over the past few months, fans have been successful in doing so, almost certainly proving that it does exist and is in the making. The only thing left for them is for either of the companies to officially announce the game.
The idea of having a third game for the "Borderlands" series was not much of a thing until today. For the past years after the release of "Borderlands 2," fans would occasionally bring up some evidence of a third game but none of them were believable enough. That is until the first big clue was revealed by Gearbox more than a year ago.
"Battleborn," another one of Gearbox's successful games, released a downloadable content (DLC) which Gearbox themselves said contained Easter eggs for their "Borderlands 3." Simultaneously, CEO Randy Pitchford, the man fans have been clinging on to, also tweeted that "Battleborn's" art director is going to work on a new "Borderlands" game.
After that, the hype died down only to be reignited a year later. Pitchford revealed tech demo featuring Unreal Engine 4. He did not say whether this would be used for the new "Borderlands" game.
Months later, he had a discussion with IGN regarding the almost certain "Borderlands 3." He did not say much about the game itself but did acknowledge the fact that fans are indeed expecting a lot from the game. Those expectations are exactly what is delaying the official announcement of the game. Pitchford himself mentioned how much "Borderlands" mean to him and the company as well.
A month later, multiple clues popped up: a job listing, Pitchford announcing that 90 percent of the company is working on a new game, and Take-Two expecting high sales from a new game coming out in fiscal year 2019.
Even with these clues, some just would not believe it until the very day the game is announced. It looks like fans will just need to keep waiting but they can rest assured that "Borderlands 3" will come out one way or another.
